homecoming

since its homecoming week, i though i would pay homage to the way campus used to look. the only thing that has remained the same is the football stadium and the drill field. notice old main is still standing and where the baseball field used to be.

football is dangerous

halfway into the season, we have now lost 3 quarterbacks, one in the first game. he's back, thank goodness, but we lost 2 more against WV. one is gone for the year, omarr's (pictured above in his return to qb) status is yet to be determined. it just keeps getting better and better.

what's your RealAge?

so, I was watching Oprah the other day and they featured this website. They ask you a bunch of questions about your health and family history and activites and stuff...I thought I'd give it a try. So, my calendar age is 29.1, and according to them, my "RealAge" is 28.3. Of course, its not scientific or anything, but it does tell you what you're doing that makes your body feel old and what you're doing to make your body feel young. So, try it! It took me somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes to fill everything out. Even if you don't believe in the RealAge thing, it does give you personalized tips for healthier living.

two quotes

Today, I ran across two quotes, both thought provoking, yet different in nature. The first I saw was on a bumper sticker while waiting at a red light:

" If you can read this, thank a teacher and if its in English, thank a soldier"

The second was actually on television. I was watching "How I Met Your Mother" (which is hilarious, by the way) and it was a scene involving two girls at thier neighborhood bar.

"Men are like the subway. you miss one and another comes along in five minutes. Unless its the end of the night and you just get on the first one that comes along"

summer reading list

when i was growing up, there was always a summer reading list. first, it was for the summer reading program that the public library conducted. then, in high school, it was summer homework. i have always been a reader, the first books i could not stop reading were the nancy drew and babysitters club series. this summer, i conducted a little summer reading project of my own, based on recommendations and ones that i read about in a magazine. the ones i have read so far are:

1. Empire Falls by Richard Russo. This is about life in small town Maine
2.Tales from the Bed- Jenifer Estess- about a woman in New York City that has ALS
3. Love, Greg and Lauren- Greg Manning- an account of Lauren's 9/11 recovery
4. True Believer- Nicholas Sparks- this was one of Sparks' better ones
5. Something Blue- Emily Giffin- recommended by Marilyn- very fun read
6. Trading Up- Candace Bushnell- this is the one i'm currently reading- half.com recommend

the ones that are waiting for thier turn
1. Dispatches from the Edge- Anderson Cooper
2. Big Russ and Me- Tim Russert
3. At First Sight- Nicholas Sparks- the sequel to True Believer
4. Something Borrowed- Emily Giffin- this is actually the one before Something Blue

If anyone wants to make any other recommendations, i'm all ears!

today i felt love

so, today i turn 29. inevitably, my birthday always makes me evaluate my life. some days, i wake up and see all the things that i don't have. then, there are days, like today, that makes me see how much i do have. everyone should feel like this on thier birthday. lots of calls, messages (and one at 5:45 am- she just had to be first!) and 17 messages in my email inbox all waiting to wish me a great day. so, thanks to all who have made my day fabulous. and just think- it's only halfway over!!

the word heard round the world

When I say this word (which really only happens when I'm about to get in a wreck), it doesn't make the news. Okay, so I'm not the leader of the free world. Alot of people are offended that our President said it. I'm not. I like a guy that speaks his mind. And isn't he speaking the truth? Here is the uncensored video of President Bush dropping the s bomb.

paperclips and houses

a year ago, this guy decided to try to trade a paperclip for a house. a year to the day later, he did it. i vaguely remember hearing about it last year, and lo and behold i was watching the news last night and the dude did it. so then i went to this website to see how he did it.

trust me...

Several years ago, when I was working as a summer staffer at GBA, I can across a devotional book that forever changed my life. I have recently decided to start going through it again, hoping to learn a little more than I did the first time. Today's reading really spoke to me, and I thought I would share it with whoever stumbled across my blog. Since it's copyright material, I'll just post the link. It's called "Trust Me with your Isaac" and it's a poem that's in bold print on the page.

Your Birthdate: July 19

You are resilient, and no doubt your resilience has already been tested.

Having had to grow up quickly, you tend to discount the advice of others.
You tend to be a loner, having learned that the only person you can depend on is yourself.

Your strength: Well developed stability and confidence

Your weakness: Suspicion of others

Your power color: Eggplant

Your power symbol: Spade

Your power month: October
